Identification
Adults can grow to 45 cm in length with large specimens being often very dark. Blue head, lightly vermiculated flanks. Dorsal fin orange with blue edge, anal fin blue, caudal fin with white base. Blue horseshoe mark behind head.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, around the Philippines, Indonesia, New Guinea, Solomon Islands and northern Australia. Lives in clear seaward reefs and drop-offs, from 2 to 50 meters deep.

Status : The species is seldom collected for the aquarium trade. It lives in many protected areas and often quite deep. The species is considered safe.
