Identification
Adults can grow to 30 cm in length for a weight of 210 g. Female green with yellow streaking on belly. Male is chestnut brown with white throat, nape and head. Wide bill gape. Three long black wattles hanging from sides and top of bill.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in Central America, in eastern Honduras, north-west Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. Lives in montane forests, from 1200 to 2300 meters. Lowland forest in winter.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is globally threatened by deforestation on its wintering grounds (lowland forests). It lives in a few protected areas within its range.
