Identification
Adults can reach a length of 45 cm for a weight of 250 g. Bare white skin on eyes and cheeks, black bill. Plumage mostly dark green with black forehead and large bright yellow area on nape. Tail is blue and red with yellow undertail.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America, from north and east Bolivia, to south-west Brazil, north Paraguay and north Argentina. Isolated population in central Brazil. Lives in humid forests, open woodlands and agricultural areas, to 2000 m.

CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is relatively common in its range and can adapt to a degree of habitat modification. Still illegally trapped for trade in many areas.
