Identification
Adults can grow to 23 cm in length for a weight of 75 g. Black head with white band from forehead to nape and yellow spot on crown, white throat. Bright yellow breast and belly. Dark brown wings with light brown edging on wing coverts.
Range and habitat
This subspecies is found in extreme south Texas and east Mexico. Species occurs from Central America to central Argentina. Lives in grasslands, cultivated areas, urban parks, forest edges, to 1600 m.
