Identification
Adults can reach up to 45 cm in length. Coloration dark brownish with faint horizontal lines on flanks. Faint white marking on chin, orange areas on belly, orange eye-contour and bright orange tail-spine contour. White ring on tail peduncle.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, near the coasts of Mozambique, Seychelles, Maldives, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia and Great Barrier reef. Lives in shallow lagoons and outer reef areas, down to 20 meters.

Status : The species is widespread but generally uncommon. It is locally caught for food but rarely for aquarium trade. So far, it remains relatively safe.
