Identification
Adults can grow to 20 cm in length. Ground coloration is silvery light grey-blue with pearly dots on each flank scales and five broad dark blue-black vertical bands. Dark caudal fin. Top of flanks are often strongly tinged yellow.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and East Africa to Line and Tuamoto islands, north to South Japan, south to Australia. Lives in upper edges of inshore rocky reefs and outer coral reef slopes, to 15 m.

Status : The species hasn’t been assessed but seems to be locally common despite more or less heavy collection for trade and destruction of coral reefs.
