Identification
Adults can grow to 19 cm in length. Slightly bulbous forehead and elongated mouth. Coloration is silvery beige-white with 5 broad vertical bars on flanks and two distinctive black bars on tail fin. Blue dots sometimes visible on flank scales.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea to East Africa, east to Tuamoto Islands, south Japan and Lord Howe Island. Lives in inshore and offshore coral and rocky reefs with coral growth, to 20 meters.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a huge range and still occurs in numerous areas. It can tolerate slight habitat degradation but disappearance of coral reefs is a threat.
