Identification
The largest chuckwalla species, reaching up to 76 cm in total length for a weight of 1.4 kg. As all chuckwallas, it has a flattened body with round belly aspect. Coloration is piebald, pinkish white mottled with darker brownish areas.

Range and habitat
This species is endemic to Mexico and only occurs on the Island of San Esteban, located in the Cortez Sea. Lives in arid rocky areas, including former lava flows.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE

Status : The species is considered threatened because of the small size of its range and its vulnerability to various threats.
