Identification
Adults can reach 40 cm in length for a weight of 309 g. Unmistakable. Plumage slaty grey becoming nearly black on wings. Forehead and crown snowy white, nape with iridescent scaly feathers. Large light pink eye-ring. Dark pink legs.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in central America, from the Florida keys and extreme east Yucatan to Greater and Lesser Antilles. Lives in coastal forests and mangroves, up to 1500 meters.

Status : The species is locally common and occurs in many protected areas. It is declining in Florida because of habitat loss (important feeding trees).
