Identification
Adults reach a body length of 34 cm for a weight of 300 g. Female all greyish-brown with red tinge on belly. Male has golden head and nape, forming thin collar, iridescent green cheeks, black breast, dark red flank plumes.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Papua New Guinea and occurs in most of the south two-thirds of the country. This subspecies occurs in the North-west of the range. Lives in lowland and hill forests, second growth and gardens, to 1500 meters.

CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species remains common to locally abundant despite years of hunting of males by local tribes. Poaching and wildlife trade are possible threats.
