Identification
Adults can reach a length of 24 cm. Venomous spines on dorsal fin. Concave forehead and long snout. Black head with yellow spot on forehead. First third of body and belly white. Black back and flanks. Yellow fins, dorsal fin tipped red.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the eastern Indian Ocean, from the western coasts of Thailand and south Myanmar to Sumatra and Java (Indonesia). Lives in coral reefs with rich coral growth, down to 30 meters deep.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is legally protected and remains fairly safe despite its small range. Some populations are declining because of destruction of coral reefs.
