Identification
Adults can grow to around 4 cm in length. Body is flattened and snout is elongated and triangular. This subspecies is black with orange to pink ocelli, sometimes forming network of lines on back and flanks. Belly whitish-yellow.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is endemic to west Suriname. The other subspecies occurs in most of the Guianas and adjacent north Brazil. It lives in humid rainforests, never far from water, on leaf litter.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has yet to be assessed by itself. It was previously lumped with A. spumarius which is listed as Vulnerable because of chytridomycosis.
