Identification
Large pigeon species growing to 40 cm in length for a weight of 315 g. Whitish face, rest of plumage with a strong pink tinge except from dark brown wings and chocolate brown tail. Eye ring, cere and legs are bright red. Bill is tipped white.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Mauritius and only occurs in the south part of the island. Also previously found on the Iles aux Aigrettes. Lives in low montane wet and rain forests, above 300 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix III
Status : The species is extremely rare in the wild and threatened by deforestation. It has benefited from a breeding and reintroduction program.
