Identification
This species grows to less than 180 cm in length. It has a smaller head and thinner body than most other Pituophis. This subspecies shows two parallel rows of black blotches on his back. Ground coloration is dark beige to reddish-brown.

Range and habitat
This subspecies only occurs in south Chiapas (Mexico) and Guatemala. The species also lives in western Mexico. Lives in pine and oak woodlands, from 1400 to 2200 meters.

Status : The species has a small range but seems globally safe. It may be locally threatened by deforestation in small parts of its range.
