Identification
The species reaches a maximum length of 8.6 cm but is generally smaller. Unmistakable. Laterally compressed body, coloration pearly grey with three vertical black bands. Long clear-edged black fins with fine white spotting.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the eastern Indian Ocean and is endemic to Indonesia, being found only around Banggai archipelago and small islands near eastern Taliabu. Lives in shallow sheltered bays with sandy bottoms and sea grass beds.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a very small range and is under constant threat from overcollection for the international trade. Numbers have been greatly reduced.
