Identification
Adults can reach a body length of 12 cm. Males are brighter colored than females. White edge on clear lower fins. Coloration is light pink-orange, throat white with pink cheek stripe. Broad vertical red band on middle flank, from back.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Indian Ocean and western Pacific ocean, from Andaman islands to Solomon islands and Great Barrier reef. Lives in coral reefs, along isolated coral heads and rubble, from 10 to 60 meters.

Status : The species has a large range and remains common in suitable habitat. Very rarely collected for the trade. Not threatened at present times.
