Identification
Adults can reach up to 13.5 cm in length. Male is pink with whitish throat and bright orange-yellow back half of body. Female has a vertical white band on flanks and another white band on tail. Back half of body brighter colored.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in western Pacific Ocean, from New Caledonia and Great Barrier reef to Lord Howe Island, Norfolk island and Tonga. Lives in steep outer reef slopes, near big coral colonies, from 12 to 40 meters.

Status : The species doesn’t have a very large range and some of its populations could be threatened by coral reef destruction. Safe in other areas.
