Identification
Adults can reach a body length of about 72 cm. Laterally compressed body, big head with thick lips and large mouth. Coloration is silvery white with diagonal rows of black spots on flanks and head. Yellow fins with black spots.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, from the Ryukyu Islands to Great Barrier reef and New Caledonia. Lives in deep inner reefs and outer reef areas, down to 35 meters.

Status : The species status has yet to be assessed but it has a fairly large range and isn’t fully dependant on corals as adults. Sometimes collected for trade.
