Identification
This species can grow to a length of 15 cm, females being larger than males. Large horns over eyes, very large mouth and round body. Coloration light brown or green with large dark brown blotches all over its body.

Range and habitat
The species is found in South America, occurring in Southern Brazil, north Argentina, east Bolivia and Paraguay. Lives in dry grasslands and savannas with soft soil, usually near temporary water.

Status : The species has a large range. Especially common during the wet season. It is declining in south of its range because of persecution and overcollection.
