Identification
Adults can reach up to 70 cm in body length for a weight of 14 kg. Small tail, up to 14 cm long. Very stocky body with silvery-grey fur, darkening on belly and limbs. Head is broad, white with black bands. Snout is broad and pig-like. Bigger and lighter subspecies
Range and habitat
The species occurs in South-east Asia, from eastern India to Vietnam, south to Thailand and Malaysia. Subspecies found in the eastern Himalayan regions. Lives in forests, grasslands and plantations near forests, to 3500 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species remains common in some parts of its range but hunting both by feral dogs and hunters for food is a source of concern.
