Identification
Adults can reach a body length of 18.5 cm. Laterally compressed body, elongated mouth and slight hump on forehead. Ground coloration is bright yellow with faint dark vertical bands, becoming black spots on mid-flanks.
Range and habitat
The species occurs on the Atlantic slope of Central America, from Ulua river in Honduras to Panama. Pacific slope of Nicaragua in Tamarindo river. Lives in many different habitats but prefers swampy waters choked with vegetation.

Status : This species has yet to be assessed but it has a large range and collection for the aquarium trade isn’t currently high enough to be a threat.
